Shale Shaker plays an important role in drilling mud solids control systems. It is the first stage solids control equipment in oil & gas drilling fluids circulation system. Most shale shakers use rectangle screens, to remove from the drilling fluids the cuttings with sizes bigger than 74μm that are brought from the drilling well to the surface solids control system, by vibration motors shaking & different mesh of screens to separate. Big-size solids would be discharged, and small-size solids would go through the mesh of screens and flow into the mud tank for further treatment by mud cleaner, centrifuge, and other solids control equipment.
A Shale shaker is the most important and also the earliest equipment that is used for solids removal purposes. It is the first line of defense after the drilling fluids come to the well surface from the borehole, so normally it greatly affects the cost of drilling cost of one rig. If using an unsuitable mesh of screens, or some broken screens, big size of solids would go directly into the solids control system, which will lead to the un-normal working of the following solids control equipment, shorten the lifetime of the solids control system, and also increase the maintenance cost of the machines.
